Description
The peripheral intravenous catheter is a medical device intended for long-term administration of medications into peripheral veins (up to 3 days) or for removing fluids and medication solutions from the human circulatory system using a catheter inserted into a blood vessel (peripheral veins of the patient) to minimize vein trauma with the help of a hollow needle (introducer). The needle is removed immediately after the catheter is inserted into the vein.
The peripheral venous catheter (IV catheter) is inserted into the arm, neck, or head area. The other end of the catheter remains open for the administration of necessary medications.
Intravenous catheters are often used for cancer patients who require long-term intravenous administration of medications, such as chemotherapy, nutritional solutions, blood products, and more.
